- On Saturday , suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for a mosque modelled on Ayodhya's Babri Masjid at a 25-acre site off NH-12, where thousands gathered from early morning.
- Earlier this week, Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress for indulging in `communal politics` after announcing the foundation ceremony earlier this month, which prompted heightened security by the state administration.
- On the dais, Kabir cut a ceremonial ribbon alongside visiting clerics as slogans of `Nara-e-Takbeer, Allahu Akbar` were raised, while a 150-ft-long, 80-ft-wide dais with seating for 400 hosted Quran recitation at 10 a.m., the foundation ceremony at noon, and a community meal at 2 p.m.
- Security officials said nearly 3,000 personnel would be deployed with multiple diversion plans, over 3,000 police guarded the mosque premises Saturday, and RAF teams arrived Friday as the Calcutta High Court directed police to maintain order.
- Kabir has said he will resign as legislator later this month and announce a new party on December 22, contesting 135 seats, while the state observed Samhati Diwas.
