Ferry Travelling From Batam to Singapore Collides with Tanker; All Passengers and Crew Safe
The MV Horizon 9 ferry with 172 people on board collided with a chemical tanker in Singapore waters; all were evacuated safely with no injuries reported, authorities said.
- On Nov 10, the MV Horizon 9 ferry with 165 passengers and seven crew collided with the Marshall Islands-flagged LA Digue, and was guided safely to HarbourFront Terminal, where all evacuated.
- The ferry departed Batam, Indonesia, at around 3.30pm and was en route to HarbourFront Centre when passengers reported it suddenly swerved left and its engine was turned off before the 5pm collision.
- A passenger reported a loud bang during the impact and said the Horizon 9's bow was damaged above the waterline but remained operational, while staff described only slight commotion on the tanker LA Digue.
- Authorities reported there were no injuries or pollution, while KSOP said investigations are ongoing into cause and environmental impact, coordinating with Horizon Ferry and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
- The Straits Times contacted the MPA, the Singapore Police Coast Guard, the National Environment Agency, PUB and Horizon Ferry for more information as KSOP logged the collision report at about 7.30pm Singapore time.
