The purchasing power of German workers has increased.
The purchasing power of German workers rose faster in the third quarter, despite the economic slump. Real wages were on average 2.7 percent higher than a year earlier between July and September.
Even in the third quarter, wages in Germany rose faster than inflation. Consumers still keep their money together.
In the third quarter, gross wages were on average 5.2 per cent higher than a year earlier, as reported by the Landesamt für Statistik. Because inflation in the same period was only 2.1 per cent, real wages grew by 3.1 per cent. This is significantly more than in the first two quarters and means that employees can afford more for their money.
