Mosque Shooters’ Manifesto Rooted in White Nationalism
Investigators say racist writings and a suicide note point to anti-Islamic motive in the attack that left three men dead.
- On Monday, Caleb Liam Vazquez, 18, and Cain Lee Clark, 17, attacked the Islamic Center of San Diego, killing three people before ending their own lives. The shooters livestreamed the violence during the assault.
- The attackers left behind a manifesto espousing neo-Nazi antisemitism and the Great Replacement conspiracy theory. They wore Nazi symbols, Atomwaffen-linked imagery, and the phrase "Race War Now" during the assault.
- Security guard Amin Abdullah "gave his life" shielding others, according to Shaykh Uthman Ibn Farooq. Mansour Kaziha and Nader Awad were also killed; more than a dozen children safely evacuated.
- President Donald Trump described the shooting as a "terrible situation," saying he is reviewing updates. Police surrounded the center as teachers and children safely exited the premises on Monday.
- In their manifesto, the shooters blamed Jews for global issues, describing the Holocaust as a "complete fabrication." Vazquez wrote that he hated Islam and viewed Middle Eastern immigrants as invaders.
