The European Union and Albania have opened a new round of talks in Tirana on the country's accession process. Brussels says it is an important step forward, but frustration and skepticism about EU enlargement is growing in the Western Balkans.
Albania today took a new step on its path to membership in the European Union. As part of the accession negotiations, it opened a set of chapters on the green transition and sustainable connectivity at an intergovernmental conference in Brussels. According to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, they want to open the last of the six chapters by the end of the year.

Today, the sixth meeting of the Accession Conference with Albania marked the opening of negotiations on the so-called cluster 4: green agenda and sustainable connectivity. This cluster covers notably: transport and energy, the trans-European networks, and environment and climate change policies.
The EU is pushing ahead with the accession negotiations with the Western Balkans country Albania, which want to join the EU by 2030.
