New battle over EU rules against deforested rainforest

On Thursday in Brussels, the EU Parliament voted in favour of changes to the EU deforestation regulation in a chaotic vote. The original plan was only to postpone the date from which the rules of the already adopted regulation would take effect by twelve months. However, the European People's Party (EPP) submitted further amendments a few days before the vote, some of which also passed the Parliament on Thursday.

Das EU-Parlament hat am Donnerstag in Brüssel in einer chaotischen Abstimmung für Änderungen der EU-Entwaldungsverordnung gestimmt. Geplant war ursprünglich nur, den Zeitpunkt, ab dem die Regeln der bereits beschlossenen Verordnung greifen, um zwölf Monate zu verschieben. Die Europäische Volkspartei (EVP) brachte aber ein paar Tage vor der Abstimmung weitere Abänderungsanträge ein, von denen am Donnerstag einige auch das Parlament passierten.
