Boston Bruins Legend Zdeno Chara Inducted Into Hockey Hall of Fame
The 2025 Hockey Hall of Fame class honors nine inductees, including Zdeno Chara with a record 1,680 games played as a defenseman and multiple Olympic and Stanley Cup champions.
- On Monday, Nov. 10, the Hockey Hall of Fame held its induction ceremony in Toronto, enshrining Zdeno Chara, former Boston Bruins captain, Joe Thornton, former NHL forward, and seven others.
- Standing 6-foot-9, Chara played 24 NHL seasons and his 1,680 games are the most by a defenseman, while Thornton left Boston early, winning a scoring title and Hart Trophy before starring in San Jose.
- Alexander Mogilny and Jack Parker, former Boston University coach, were among others inducted; Parker retired with 897 wins as the third-winningest NCAA coach.
- Chara delivered a nine-minute speech tracing his NHL stops and thanked longtime teammate Patrice Bergeron, while donating career mementoes and keeping old skates in Trencin, Slovakia.
- Observers noted this class raises questions about future inductions, as no referees and linespersons have been inducted since 2014 while Daniele Sauvageau became the first female builder elected, a milestone Jayna Hefford said will bring more women in coming years.
