Des Moines' MercyOne getting new president and CEO
Baxter brings more than 30 years of health care experience and will oversee MercyOne’s network of 20,000 employees and 230 care sites.
MercyOne announced Wednesday, May 20, that Robert Baxter will become its president and CEO, assuming the role on June 22 following a nationwide search.
Bringing more than 30 years of health care experience, Baxter most recently served as president of the Toledo market for Bon Secours Mercy Health, Ohio's largest health care system, since 2017.
Baxter succeeds interim President and CEO Michael Taylor, who has served since January. Taylor will remain through July 1 to facilitate the transition.
Trinity Health, MercyOne's parent organization, reported a $1.5 billion annual revenue reduction due to government funding policy changes and decreased access to Medicaid and Medicare.
A University of Iowa alumnus, Baxter returns to the state to oversee a network of more than 20,000 employees and over 230 clinics, hospitals, and care locations throughout Iowa and neighboring regions.
