Ranging from the Harsh Sunflower to the Northern Barrens Tiger Beetle, a variety of species are having their habitats disturbed by human activities. Sandplains originally came to the Champlain Valley when coarse sediment was deposited as large waters from melted glaciers emptied into what is now Lake Champlain about 12,000 years ago.
