Clarivate Announces Highly Cited Researchers 2025 List
Clarivate named 6,868 researchers with 7,131 awards showing global influence; 86% of awards concentrate in 10 countries, with the U.S. leading with 2,670 awards.
- On Nov. 12, 2025, Clarivate released the Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list, recognizing 6,868 individuals with 7,131 awards across 60 countries and regions.
- Applying Web of Science Core Collection data, ISI analysts used quantitative metrics and expert review, with algorithmic screening excluding 312 potential awards to uphold research integrity.
- In cross-field analysis, China’s Chinese Academy of Sciences leads with 258 awards, with 3,562 ESI-field awards and 1,406 awards in the top five countries, analysts found.
- Clarivate said the list offers insights for institutions, funders and policymakers and the Mathematics category was reintroduced after additional scrutiny.
- Geographically, one in five awards goes to Mainland China, which holds 1,406 awards despite a slight share drop, while Hong Kong SAR reached 145 awards and Switzerland returned to the top 10.
