Centcom issues safety warning to Iranian civilians

CENTCOM warns that launching missiles from crowded Iranian cities could make these areas military targets, risking civilian lives amid regional conflict escalation.

  • On Sunday, U.S. Central Command posted a safety notice on X shortly before 10 a.m. Eastern, urging Iranian civilians to stay indoors as Iranian forces launch drones and missiles from populated areas.
  • Following strikes that began Feb. 28, U.S. and Israeli forces targeted missile sites, military bases, and Tehran oil facilities, while Bahrain accused Iran of hitting a desalination/water-treatment plant.
  • Three named cities — Dezful, Esfahan and Shiraz — were identified where CENTCOM says military sites could lose protected status under international law, while U.S. military takes every feasible precaution to minimize harm to civilians.
  • At least 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, with losses in Lebanon, Israel and six U.S. troops; a late-night Israeli strike engulfed Tehran's oil facility in smoke, while Bahrain accused Iran of hitting a water treatment plant.
  • With interceptions reported in Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Adm. Brad Cooper said Iran is blatantly disregarding civilian lives while the conflict rattles global markets and disrupts air travel.
