Canada’s curlers 1st team announced for the Paralympic Winter Games
Canada's wheelchair curling team combines seasoned Paralympians and newcomers aiming for medals, with 15 international matches played ahead of the Milan-Cortina Games, officials said.
- On Monday at CBC Sports headquarters in Toronto, five athletes were named, including Collinda Joseph as starting lead with Mark Ideson, Ina Forrest, Jon Thurston, and Gilbert Dash.
- Canada has medalled in wheelchair curling at every Paralympics since 2006, and Mick Lizmore, Canada head coach, says the roster combines veteran talent with close-knit chemistry.
- The new-look Canadian squad has played 15 international matches and might add 15 more before travelling to Milan-Cortina, while coaching staff focus on releases and communication.
- Fewer than 110 days remain until the Milan-Cortina Games, and Collinda Joseph says she feels more comfortable and confident for a second Paralympics after moving from alternate to starter.
- Looking toward medals, veteran credentials stand out as Forrest heads to her fifth Paralympics with gold medals in 2010 and 2014, while Ideson makes his fourth Games and turns 5 shortly after the event.
