BOJ hikes rates again to 5.5%

The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) raised the benchmark interest rate offered to deposit-taking institutions on overnight placements with the central bank by 50 basis points to 5.50 per cent, effective June 30. It is the seventh consecutive increase in the policy rate by the monetary policy authority since last September. Consumer price or headline inflation in May was estimated at 10.9 per cent.
