US tells ASML it's concerned one of its chipmaking tools may be in China, Bloomberg News reports
ASML denies U.S. concerns that an extreme ultraviolet machine reached China, as 314 such systems operate worldwide and none are in China, Bloomberg reported.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick raised concerns with ASML executives about a potential ASML EUV System in China, suggesting it could violate US-led export restrictions on advanced chip manufacturing tools.
Washington has pressured The Hague and Tokyo to stem chip tool flows to China; ASML has never been permitted to ship ASML EUV Systems there due to export curbs imposed during the first Trump administration.
ASML refuted the suggestion, noting that none of the 314 active ASML EUV Systems are in operation around the world in China and circulating a document in Washington to support the claim.
Persistent concerns from the Trump administration add pressure on the Dutch firm, which has faced previous allegations that its activities undermine United States technology policies.
The Commerce Department has not responded to queries regarding evidence of an ASML EUV System in China, while the United States maintains restricted technology flows to Huawei but permits business with SwaySure Technology.
