Beloved Citroen 2CV revived as electric car
Xavier Chardon said the retro-styled EV will sit below the e-C3 and target budget rivals, including the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03.
- CEO Xavier Chardon confirmed at Stellantis' Investor Day 2026 in Michigan, USA, that Citroen is reviving The Citroen as an electric vehicle targeted at the European market.
- The original Citroen, one of the French carmaker's most iconic vehicles, entered production in 1948 with development pre-dating World War. The model remained in production in certain markets until 1990.
- A teaser image revealed the new electric vehicle retains classic exterior traits including flared wheel arches, circular headlights, and a rounded rear, mirroring the original design.
- The revived Citroen will be manufactured in Italy from 2028 and priced from under €15,000, positioning it to rival the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03.
- While the European market is confirmed, Citroen has not clarified if the car will be sold elsewhere. The brand was axed in Australia back in 2024 after 101 years of selling cars Down Under.
