Bungie Apologies for Stolen Artwork in 'Marathon'
- Bungie removed all Marathon gameplay from its May 15, 2025 livestream after admitting that a former artist used stolen artwork without permission.
- This followed accusations by Scottish artist Fern ‘4nt1r34l’ Hook that Bungie used her 2017 poster design elements in the game's alpha without credit.
- Art director Joseph Cross explained that the former employee placed Hook’s graphics on a decal sheet checked in 2020, which was then included in the alpha build.
- Cross apologized stating, "There was no excuse for this oversight," and said Bungie has launched a full audit to remove or recreate inappropriately sourced assets.
- Bungie pledged to improve review processes to prevent future incidents and confirmed Marathon’s release on September 23, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
