Air Travellers Departing Singapore to Pay Sustainable Aviation Fuel Levy of S$1 to S$41.60 per Ticket
Passengers will pay between $1 and $41.60 based on flight distance and class, funding sustainable aviation fuel to support greener air travel.
- On Nov 10, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore announced a green levy applying to tickets sold from Apr 1, 2026, for flights departing Singapore on or after Oct 1, 2026.
- The levy is intended to create a central fund that pools levies collected to buy sustainable aviation fuel as Singapore targets 1 per cent SAF in 2026 and 3 to 5 per cent by 2030, CAAS announced.
- CAAS outlined banded charges that, by distance and cabin class, vary from $1 to $41.60 for destinations in Southeast Asia, the Americas, and other regions.
- A spokesman for Singapore Airlines said the levy aligns with its SAF plan, the International Air Transport Association welcomed lead time and consultations, while DHL reviews impact and price-sensitive travellers might fly elsewhere.
- Cargo shipments will incur a per-kilogramme levy with rates of 1, 4, 9, and 15 cents for Bands 1–4, with exemptions for transit and charitable flights, and CAAS said the timing provides industry lead time.
