'A Cleveland Brown for Life': LG Joel Bitonio Retires After 12 NFL Seasons
Bitonio ends a 12-season Browns career with 178 games played and 11,847 offensive snaps, citing wear on his knees and back.
On Tuesday, Cleveland Browns guard Joel Bitonio announced his retirement after 12 seasons, concluding an entire career spent with the franchise since his 2014 NFL Draft selection.
Throughout his 178 career starts, Bitonio earned seven Pro Bowl nods and five All-Pro selections, surpassing Hall of Fame offensive tackle Joe Thomas for most franchise starts since 1999.
General Manager Andrew Berry called Bitonio a 'Hall of Fame person,' while Bitonio wrote, 'There was never a point where I could envision myself in a different uniform.'
Following the arrival of Elgton Jenkins and Zion Johnson, the Browns transition their offensive line as Bitonio concludes his playing days after months of deliberation with management.
Bitonio leaves a legacy of 11,847 offensive snaps, having blocked for 21 different starting quarterbacks, with analysts considering the guard 'Canton-bound' for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
