An avalanche surprised a group of skiers and snowboarders on the Stubai glacier, in the Austrian Alps, specifically in the area of the Daunscharte Pass, an off-track area. The slide reached even part of track 9, which was immediately closed. Authorities deployed a huge operation with 250 rescuers, helicopters and search dogs. In total, nine people were rescued alive and three were transferred by helicopter to hospitals.
