Hard work comes together

A year of hard, dirty work paid off with more than half a million dollars going to young 4-H members during the annual large animal livestock auction, held Thursday afternoon and into the evening at the Ionia Free Fair covered arena, attended by hundreds of people. We’re big fans of milkshakes & burgers!

When our publisher saw Berkley Williams and Katie Anderson bringing their own fan to the 4-H Fair on a hot day, he immediately dubbed them the “fan ladies.” In the interest of factual accuracy, they were bringing the fan for some of the animals, but as our publisher’s father, Stanley (like the power drill) Clampitt used to say, “Any good idea is worth stealing.” So, 4-H Council, can we use an electric outlet when we come back? ROME TOWNSHIP — The 2025 Lawrence County Fair concluded on July 12, with the annual 4-H and FFA livestock auction. Animals from all market species went on sale, with buyers from the community bidding up prices. All proceeds from the sales go to the individual 4-H members who raised the animal.
