Assam Cabinet Undergoes Expansion, 12 MLAs Sworn In
Twelve MLAs will join the ministry, bringing BJP, AGP and BPF representation and leaving room for two more ministers, officials said.
On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 12 Members of the Legislative Assembly will be sworn in as Cabinet Ministers on Friday, June 5, expanding the council to 17 members.
The expansion follows the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's victory in the Assembly elections, where the coalition secured 102 of 126 seats to retain power for a third consecutive term.
Among the 12 new entrants are first-time MLA Nilima Devi and veteran Bodo leader Biswajit Daimary, with 11 appointees from the BJP and one from the Asom Gana Parishad.
Sarma recently briefed President Droupadi Murmu on the state's economic growth roadmap, marking his first such meeting since assuming office for a second consecutive term on May 12.
Future cabinet capacity remains open, as the 126-member Assembly allows for up to 19 ministers, though this expansion excludes leaders from Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
The Assam government's cabinet is set to expand on Friday, June 5th. Three new faces will be inducted. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the cabinet expansion.
